University streams event video into "virtual Guantanamo Bay detention center" in Second Life with help from Netbriefings

Live video from Seton Hall's Constitution Day conference will be streamed over the Web and into an interactive space in Second Life virtual world

St. Paul, Minnesota - September 14, 2007 - Netbriefings, a company that specializes in video communication for business, will stream live video from the Seton Hall School of Law's upcoming Constitution Day conference over the Web and into a special location for the event in Second Life.

The conference's "Interrogation and Intelligence Gathering" program will be streamed over the Web on Sept. 17 for participating colleges and universities across the nation. Netbriefings is also working with a partner, New Jersey-based video production firm MIB Productions, to stream the webcast into a virtual Guantanamo Bay detention center in Second Life as a pilot program to provide an ongoing online platform for the discussion of constitutional, political and international issues.

"This is a big event to launch our efforts in the virtual world," said Professor Mark Denbeaux, who developed the Constitution Day program. "We hope to create a place for meaningful interaction and discussion around the Guantanamo Bay topic, but that's only the beginning. We want to see people get excited about an intelligent, diverse debate about political and legal issues."

The virtual detention center was developed with funding from the MacArthur Foundation by Nonny de la Pena, producer and director of the documentary "Unconstitutional: The War on Our Civil Liberties," and Peggy Weil, professor of interactive media at the University of Southern California. The virtual Guantanamo Bay center in Second Life lets visitors walk through the experience of military detention and watch clips from de la Pena's documentary.

Space to participate in the Constitution Day program on Second Life will be limited based on the specific capabilities of the Guantanamo Bay platform the day of the webcast.
